Summer HairResQ Tips Part 2

August 25th, 2015

The Battle for Better Summer Hair – Salon Eva Michelle
When it’s hazy, hot and humid, you may not expect your hair to feel dry or brittle. However, in the summer you often abuse your hair more than any other season by swimming in chlorine, more frequent showers and pulling your hair back with harsh elastics. In this month’s blog, we address some proven HairResQ strategies to overcome these two common summer hair emergencies.

Dry, Brittle Hair
Broken or Split Ends

Here are a few quick tips on how you can win the battle for better hair this summer:

Rehydrate Dry, Brittle Hair – Summer can make even the heathiest hair feel course, dry and brittle. When you are exercising (and sweating) in the hot sun, swimming in salt water or chlorine your hair takes a great deal of abuse. You should get in the habit of giving yourself a home conditioning treatment weekly with Wella Professionals LuxeOil Keratin Restore Mask. This mask will help improve texture and keep your hair soft. One of our favorite tips is something super easy: when you condition your hair after shampooing leave a little conditioner in it. Rather than rinsing it squeaky clean, your hair should feel a bit slippery when you towel dry. A conditioner is made to condition your hair. If you wash it all away, you are also washing away the benefits. And if you need a little extra you can use the lightweight leave-in, Wella Professionals LuxeOil Reconstructive Elixir.

Mend Broken or Split Ends – The best tip we can give you for split ends is a regular haircut. Keeping the dead ends trimmed will help eliminate the split ends. We also suggest using the invisibobble™ hair ring when you want to pull your hair back into a quick ponytail. Harsh rubber elastics can put pressure, on not only on your scalp, but also on your hair. Due to its smooth surface, the invisibobble™ doesn’t rub against the hair surface. Instead, it nestles up to the hair preventing it from breakage. There are also many up-styles you can create with just an invisibobble™. We also suggest….ORIBE Split End Sealant. This product, if used regularly, reduces hair breakage by 65% and repairs 94% of split ends. Another benefit of this product is it fights color fading with UV protectants. This is a super product that we cannot live without!

Next time you are in the salon, ask your designer how your hair is fairing this summer. If you hear the words dry, brittle, broken or split, use the prescribed methods above to gain the edge over your personal hair battle.

Hair Color

You’re about to get schooled: Blue pigments are the first to leave hair, while red ones are the hardest to get in and out. This science-savvy color team knows that and much more. Hair-painting whiz Adriana Petrola forgoes foils, instead using Color ID products to prevent bleeding between hues, while co-owners Michelle Lee and Eva Mustafai are training to be Wella Master Color Experts. With all this know-how, they should be wearing lab coats.

Summer HairResQ Tips

June 25th, 2015

Welcome Summer

“Use your sunscreen” is a message we’ve all heard over and over, and most of you have taken heed. However, many of you overlook protecting your hair from the summer sun, salt water and chlorine. These activities can wreak havoc with your hair. How do you know if the summertime pleasures, we all indulge in, are making an impact on your tresses? Salon Eva Michelle identifies two of the most common in our June blog.

  • Faded Hair Color
  • Frizzy Hair

Here are two HairResQ tips for how you can protect your hair as summer kicks into high gear:

Faded Hair Color – Wear a hat. It sounds so simple, but many of you do not wear hats and this is the number one way you can protect your hair from fading. Hats have the added benefit of protecting your scalp from the UV rays of the sun. For those of you non-hat people, you should always, not just in the summer, rinse your hair with cool water, not hot water. Cool water will help close the hair cuticle and seal in moisture. We also suggest a color protection shampoo like, Wella Professionals Elements Renewing Shampoo and Lightweight Conditioner. This sulfate-free shampoo and paraben free conditioner renews the moisture of the hair, strengthening and nourishing it.

Frizzy Hair – Although nothing is 100% guaranteed to fend off the summer fizzes brought on by the humidity. ORIBE’s Impermeable, Frizz-Free Anti Humidity Spray, used after styling, is our go to product before we walk out the door for work or play. We also recommend using a smoothing oil before or after blow drying. Wella Professionals Reflections Oil, made with macadamia seed oil, avocado oil and vitamin E, leaves hair feeling light and supple with a healthy looking shine.

The summer may be short, but it is long enough that we should adjust our hair regimen to make certain we protect it. These summer HairResQ tips will help prevent dry, faded, frizzy hair with split ends so you can have a beautiful healthy hair to match your bronze glowing skin.
